Is Maris only for people with ADHD?
We designed Maris specifically for ADHD brains that struggle with impulsive phone use. If you're neurotypical and just need occasional help with discipline, tools like Forest or Opal might be better. But if blocking apps triggers 'reactance' (I CAN'T HAVE IT = I NEED IT NOW), Maris was built for you.
Will this replace my medication or therapy?
No. Maris is a complement to treatment, not a replacement. Think of it as behavioral homework between therapy sessions, or external accountability support while you're on medication.
How is this different from Opal or Freedom?
Those are blocking tools built for neurotypical brains who need occasional willpower support. ADHD brains need intentionality training. Maris uses CBT-based friction to help you pause before impulses hijack your day, training your brain rather than just restricting it.
Why do you need Accessibility / Screen Time permissions?
Blocking apps requires deep system integration. On Android, we use Accessibility Services to detect when a blocked app opens. On iOS, we use the Screen Time API. We verify the 'package name' locally on your device. We NEVER track your typing, read your messages, or see your content.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your activity data (sessions, duration) is stored securely. Your sensitive app usage data (which apps you open) is processed strictly on-device for blocking purposes and is never sent to our servers.
What if I have an emergency during a Strict Mode session?
Safety first. Strict Mode is designed to provide mental friction, not to be a jail. You can always force-quit the application or restart your device to regain immediate access to all apps in an emergency.
How does the Free Trial work?
You get 3 days of full Premium access completely free. You won't be charged if you cancel in your phone's Settings > Subscriptions at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
What is 'Intent-Based' unlocking?
Most blockers just say 'NO'. Maris asks 'WHY?'. If you try to open a blocked app, we ask you to type your intent (e.g., 'Reply to urgent email'). If the intent is valid, you get a short window of access. This adds mindfulness to your friction.
