Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 4, 2025

At Maris, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Data Collection

We do not sell your personal data. We only collect data necessary to provide the Maris service, such as:

  • Account information (email, name) for authentication.
  • Focus session history (duration, date) to provide statistics.
  • Subscription status to manage premium features.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how our website and app are used. This data is aggregated and anonymized.

We also use third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase: For secure authentication and database hosting.
  • RevenueCat: To manage subscription entitlements.
  • Sentry: For crash reporting and error tracking (to fix bugs).

Android Accessibility Service Declaration

Maris utilizes the Android AccessibilityService API to function as an app blocker.

Why we use it: This service is used strictly to detect the package name of the application currently in the foreground. This allows us to determine if the open app matches one of your selected "blocked apps" during a focus session.

Data Privacy: This data is processed locally on your device in real-time. We do not store a history of your app usage, and we do not transmit this data to any third-party servers.

2. Strict Mode & Safety

Maris includes a "Strict Mode" designed to prevent you from cancelling focus sessions easily.

  • Voluntary Restriction: By enabling Strict Mode, you acknowledge that you are voluntarily restricting your own access to specific apps for a set duration.
  • Emergency Access: Maris does not block emergency calls, system settings, or essential phone functions. You always retain the ability to force-quit the application or restart your device in case of emergency.

3. iOS Screen Time (Family Controls)

On iOS, we use the FamilyControls framework (Screen Time API) to restrict app usage.

  • Apple's Security: All blocking logic is handled securely by the iOS system. Maris does not have access to the content of your other apps, your browsing history, or your passwords.
  • Revocability: This authorization is revocable by you at any time via iOS Settings. However, revoking permissions during an active session may be tracked as a "failed session" to maintain your productivity accountability.

4. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard security measures, including:

  • Encryption in Transit: All data is transmitted via HTTPS/TLS encryption.
  • Encryption at Rest: Sensitive data stored in our databases is encrypted.
  • Strict Access Control: Only authorized personnel have access to production infrastructure.

5. Data Retention

  • Focus Session Data: Retained while information is useful to provide you with stats, or until you delete your account.
  • Account Data: Deleted within 30 days of your request for account deletion.
  • Backups: Encrypted backups may be retained for up to 90 days for disaster recovery purposes before being purged.

6. Your Data Rights & Deletion

Regardless of your location, we grant you the following rights:

  • Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Deletion: You can request full deletion of your account and associated data directly within the app settings or by contacting us at support@trymaris.com.
  • Export: You may request a copy of your session data in a portable format.

GDPR/CCPA: If you are located in the EEA, UK, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA. We are committed to facilitating these rights. Contact support@trymaris.com to exercise them.

7. Cookies

We use cookies, specifically Google Analytics, to analyze website traffic and improve user experience. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.

8. Children's Privacy

Maris is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. International Transfers

Your information, including Personal Data, is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located. It means that this information may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of Your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from Your jurisdiction.
